A Fast-Growing Market
New Construction Demands a Contractor Who Gets the Details Right
Zebulon is the second fastest growing town in North Carolina. Approximately 65% of homes sold in Zebulon are new construction. That level of growth means a large and active market for new hardwood and LVP installation, and it also means homeowners are making flooring decisions in homes they plan to stay in for years.
Around 20% of properties in Zebulon sit on at least an acre. That estate and rural character means some homes have custom builds with wide-plank hardwood, non-standard room sizes, and subfloor conditions that require more careful assessment than a standard subdivision build.
Not all of Zebulon is new construction. The older homes within the town limits predate the growth boom by decades and carry original hardwood worth assessing before any replacement decision gets made. Downtown Zebulon also has commercial buildings with original wood floors that are candidates for restoration rather than replacement.
We handle all of it from our Clayton base. New builds, established homes, and downtown commercial work. Zebulon is a short drive from our shop. Bona Certified craftsmanship, five-year warranty.
New construction installation.
We handle hardwood and LVP installation for new Zebulon builds with full subfloor prep, moisture testing, and proper acclimation. Every new installation carries our five-year warranty.
Older town homes and downtown commercial.
Zebulon's pre-boom homes and downtown commercial buildings carry original hardwood worth restoring. Before any replacement decision, we assess whether refinishing is viable. It usually is.
Estate and custom home experience.
Larger Zebulon properties often have custom builds with non-standard room layouts, wide-plank wood, or mixed flooring types. We assess each job individually and give you an honest estimate.
Dual moisture testing on every subfloor.
We use the Tramex MEX5 and Delmhorst Total Check on every job before installation begins. Zebulon's rural and semi-rural character means subfloor moisture conditions vary more than in standard subdivision builds.
Climate-controlled warehouse acclimation.
New hardwood acclimates in our Clayton warehouse before arriving on site. This is especially important for larger Zebulon properties where room-by-room humidity conditions can vary.
Why Choose Us
Why Zebulon Homeowners Choose 12th & Oak

What We See Every Day
Common Flooring Problems in Zebulon Homes
Why Is My New Zebulon Construction Hardwood Cupping After Just One Year?
New construction in Zebulon means subfloors that have not fully stabilized, HVAC systems that may not have been running during installation, and production build timelines that do not always allow proper acclimation. Hardwood installed too quickly after construction cups or develops gaps within the first year as the subfloor settles and the wood responds to humidity changes it was never allowed to adjust to before installation. Proper acclimation in a climate-controlled environment before any board goes down is the preventable fix. We acclimate all hardwood in our Clayton warehouse before arriving on site.
Should I Install Hardwood or LVP in My New Zebulon Home on a Slab Foundation?
65% of Zebulon homes sold are new construction, and a large share sit on slab foundations. Slab moisture is the primary decision factor between hardwood and LVP on any ground-level installation. When dual moisture readings are within acceptable range, site-finished hardwood is viable and delivers more long-term value than factory-finished or LVP alternatives. When readings are elevated, LVP with a roll-on moisture barrier is the correct answer. We give you the actual meter readings before you commit to any product.
Why Is Builder-Grade Prefinished Hardwood in My Weaver's Pointe or Woodland Crossing Home Wearing Through?
Production builds throughout Zebulon's growth communities often receive thin-wear-layer prefinished hardwood to meet budget and schedule targets. Factory finish is applied at the mill in thinner coats than a site-applied finish system. High-traffic lanes and kitchen thresholds show wear first because those areas take the most abuse and the factory finish has the least margin. If the wear layer is sufficient, a site-applied refinish adds significantly more life than the original factory coating and gives you more control over the final appearance.
What Should New Zebulon Homeowners Know Before Choosing Flooring?
With so much new construction activity, Zebulon buyers often make flooring decisions before the home is finished or before they understand what slab versus crawl space foundation means for their options. A flooring product that looks right on a showroom sample may not be appropriate for the actual subfloor conditions in the home. An honest assessment of subfloor type, moisture readings, and expected traffic before installation is worth more than any showroom visit. We provide that assessment in writing after a free in-home evaluation with no pressure to commit.
Know Your Options
Should You Refinish or Replace Your Hardwood Floors in Zebulon?
In Zebulon's predominantly new construction market, most homeowners face this question on floors that are only a few years old. The builder-grade prefinished hardwood common in production builds looks worn faster than site-finished floors, but often has more wear layer remaining than it appears to. A physical gauge check during the free in-home visit tells you exactly where you stand before any decision is made. Here is how the two options compare.
Cost per sq ft
Typical timeline
Best for
Disruption level
Warranty
Refinishing
$4.50 – $9.00
4 – 5 days
Floors with wear layer remaining, dull or scratched finish
Moderate, furniture moved, 24 hr re-entry
5-year warranty
Replacement
$15 – $25
1 – 2 weeks
Floors worn through to bare wood, slab moisture issues, wrong product choice
High, full demo, subfloor prep, installation
5-year warranty
For Zebulon new construction homes with thin factory finishes, we measure the wear layer during the free in-home visit before recommending anything. Many floors that look bad have more remaining life than the homeowner realizes. If refinishing is not viable, replacement on a slab may mean LVP rather than hardwood. We give you the full picture before you spend a dollar.

LVP Installation After Mold Remediation
The Problem
We were hired to pull old laminate and vinyl and install new LVP throughout the house. When the existing flooring came up, the subfloor told a different story: active mold growth across multiple rooms and moisture readings in the crawl space far outside safe range. Installing LVP over a wet, mold-affected subfloor is not something we will do -- the moisture would keep driving through, the new floor would fail, and the mold problem would continue hidden underneath.
The Solution
Work stopped, conditions documented, and remediation coordinated before a single plank went down. The crawl space was fully encapsulated and an AprilAire dehumidifier installed to bring humidity under control. Mold on the subfloor was chemically treated and cleared. Once the subfloor reached moisture equilibrium, Choice Flooring LVP in Vineyard Chardonnay was installed throughout the main level and on the staircase.

Full-Home LVP, One Continuous Floor Across Every Room
The Problem
Every room had a different surface: carpet in the family room and bedrooms, laminate in the kitchen and hallway, vinyl over luan in the bathrooms. Getting everything out clean, prepping the subfloor properly, and installing one continuous floor across that many different room types and transitions is a logistics problem as much as a flooring problem. Each subfloor condition had to be evaluated individually before any product went down.
The Solution
Full demo down to the subfloor across every room. Subfloor moisture checked before installation. Wakol PU280 moisture barrier rolled on across the full field. Choice Flooring SPC in Vineyard Collection Wine Barrel installed throughout, including the bathrooms. The Wine Barrel color reads warm and natural across the full house, consistent from the family room through the bedrooms and bathrooms.
