More Than a Service Area

Izral Daniels Knows Wendell as a Person, Not Just a Contractor

Izral grew up spending time in Wendell. He knows this community not as a market, but as a place where he spent formative years. When Wendell Falls broke ground in 2015, 12th And Oak was installing floors in some of the very first homes built in the development. We were on site before most of the streets were named.

We have watched Wendell grow from a quiet small town into one of eastern Wake County's premier addresses. That growth history is not abstract for us. We were part of it from the beginning, and we carry that institutional knowledge into every assessment we do in the community today.

Wendell Falls homes built between 2015 and 2018 are entering their first refinishing window. If your home was built during those early phases, now is the right time to have the floors assessed. A recoat or refinish done at the correct point in the floor's life extends it significantly and preserves the look the home was designed around.

Wendell Falls first refinishing window.

Homes built in Wendell Falls from 2015 through 2018 are now 7 to 10 years old. Many are approaching the point where recoating or refinishing delivers the most value. We assess and give you an honest recommendation based on actual measurements.

Recoating as a cost-effective first step.

If your Wendell Falls floors are dull or lightly worn but the wood is structurally sound, a recoat restores the sheen in a single day. Starting at $2.00 per square foot, it is the lowest-disruption path to extending the life of a well-maintained floor.

Full refinishing when the floor calls for it.

When wear has gone through the finish coat and into the wood, a full sand and refinish restores the floor to like-new condition. We tell you honestly whether that is the right call or whether a recoat is sufficient.

New construction throughout Wendell.

Ongoing development in Wendell Falls and the emerging Ponder community along Highway 97 means new installation work continues in Wendell. We handle new construction and renovation across all phases of the community's growth.

What We See Every Day

Common Flooring Questions from Wendell Homeowners

My Wendell Falls Floor Was Installed in 2015 to 2018. Does It Need Refinishing Yet?

Wendell Falls original hardwood from the community's first build phases is now 7 to 10 years old. This is the inflection point where finish wear becomes visible in traffic lanes, kitchen thresholds, and high-use living areas. Whether refinishing or recoating is the right call depends on two things: how deep the wear has gone and whether the existing finish is still well-adhered. If wear is superficial and the finish bond is intact, recoating adds years of life without sanding to bare wood. If wear has gone through the finish coat and into the wood fiber, a full refinish is the correct answer. We check both with physical tools during the free in-home visit and give you a direct recommendation with no pressure attached.

Why Is My New Wendell Falls Hardwood Showing Wear Already?

Builder-grade prefinished hardwood installed in production builds carries thinner factory finishes than site-finished alternatives applied on location. The finish system is designed for speed of installation rather than longevity. Wear appears faster in traffic lanes, kitchen thresholds, and entry areas because those areas absorb the most impact, and the finish layer has less depth to absorb it. If the remaining wear layer is sufficient, a full refinish with a site-applied water-based finish system restores the floor and adds durability that the original factory coating never had. The new finish system outperforms what came from the factory, and the floor performs better after refinishing than it did when it was new.

Should I Refinish or Replace My Wendell Falls Hardwood?

The answer depends on two measurements: how much wear layer remains and whether the current finish is still adhered to the wood. Most Wendell Falls floors installed between 2015 and 2020 still have sufficient wear layer for at least one full refinishing cycle. The wood itself is in good shape. The finish is what is failing, not the structural material underneath it. Replacement at this age is rarely the right call and is significantly more expensive and disruptive than refinishing. We measure the wear layer with a physical gauge and check finish adhesion before making any recommendation. If replacement is genuinely warranted, we tell you so and explain the specific reason.

Can You Match My Existing Wendell Falls Hardwood When Adding a Room Addition?

Wendell Falls continues to grow and room additions are a common project in the community. Matching existing site-finished hardwood requires sourcing the correct species, grade, and plank width, then sanding and finishing both the original floor and the new addition together so the color and sheen are uniform across the entire surface. We have matched existing Wendell Falls floors successfully on multiple addition projects and carry multiple species and width options. The key to a seamless result is finishing both old and new in the same session rather than attempting to match a previously cured finish on the addition alone. We assess and plan this approach from the start.

Know Your Options

Should You Refinish or Replace Your Hardwood Floors in Wendell?

For most Wendell Falls homeowners with floors installed between 2015 and 2020, the answer is refinishing. These floors are young enough that the wood structure is sound, and the only thing failing is the factory finish applied at the mill. A site-applied water-based finish system added during refinishing outperforms what the floor originally had and extends its life by another decade or more.

Distressed rift and quartered white oak floors with custom hardwax oil finish in Westlake Wendell NC, wire brushed and hand scraped

Hardwood Floor Installation · Westlake

Distressed Rift & Quartered White Oak, Full-Home Demo

The Problem

The homeowners wanted a floor with genuine character -- not a stain and a topcoat, but something that looked like it belonged in the house and had texture you could feel, not just see. Every room had a different existing floor: carpet in the living areas, vinyl over luan in the kitchen, and original 2.25" red oak in the foyer. All of it had to come out before a single new board went down.

The Solution

Full demo down to the subfloor, roll-on moisture barrier, then 5" rift and quartered white oak installed with nail and glue assist. The Bona PowerDrive with a wire brush head opened the grain and pulled texture out of every board. Each plank received hand-scraped custom bevels, then additional distressing. Water popping before finish, then a custom hardwax oil blend applied for a buttery matte surface -- no plastic sheen, no build-up, just the wood.

Hardwood Floor Installation · Tanner's Creek

Red Oak Lace-In with Custom Rubio Monocoat 2C

The Project

Carpet removed from the family room, new 2.25-inch red oak laced into the existing hardwood throughout the main level. Once installation was complete, we sanded the entire floor to a single plane and finished with a custom Rubio Monocoat 2C blend in a deep, warm brown.

The Finish

Rubio Monocoat 2C penetrates into the wood fiber rather than building a surface film. The custom color reads warm and dark with a matte finish that does not show footprints or fine scratches the way a polyurethane system does. Water-popped stain preparation was applied first to equalize absorption between old and new wood.
